Involve the team and monitor project tasks closely
The demand for cheaper, faster and better applications will always be there, howsoever cheaper, faster and better you make them. This can be achieved only by making use of innovative applications, and not by reinventing the wheels.
However, the challenge is to select the right tools because the amount of customization required makes many of these tools either irrelevant or so complicated that developers find it easier to write code from scratch. Depending on the technology being used for development, the developers will use relevant tools to help them develop the UI and the code.
But, as a business analyst, you are the best person to build the application (or most of it). This is logical because you understand the bigger picture, you communicate with the client, you visualize the app from day one with the client’s business objectives held dear to you, and you can communicate it best to the internal teams. So, you should be able to build all of the application or most of it…YOURSELF.
And for that, you need the right tools because while you may not be able to code, the code does form the backbone of the application…duh!!!
Efforts are on to speed up the process by having the non-technical users (read business analysts or the audience of this article who have to take on multiple roles) develop most or all of the application using interactive software tools.
While this is very complex, significant progress has been made by many players. Zoho Creator, Longjump, Bungee Connect and Force.com have made remarkable attempts at automating this process to reduce the time and cost of development. Many of these include pre-built components for business applications that can be used without having to build from scratch.
However, there still remains a level of complexity that causes users to not be able to do much with them except create simple forms. Technically, complex custom applications can be created using them (at least using some of the above), but they lack the required level of simplicity in being able to use them by non-technical users.
Celeroo Builder helps manage requirements, build apps (including logic) and download code cheaper, faster and better. It helps fix the 3 biggest causes of web project failures, viz., insufficient time or budget, changing requirements and inconsistent stakeholder demands.
